Peterborough Junior Championships 2017

Monday, 26 June 2017 - 1:09pm

Peterborough Junior Championships is one of the major races of the year for our J13 and J14 rowers and is a chance for these girls to race on a multi-lane course over 1km. This is the last race of the school year and the girls were keen to finnish the 2016-2017 season on a high note with some great performances.

The Headington J13 squad had a strong entry at this year’s regatta looking to build on their performances at Blenheim Palace and Marlow earlier in the term. The J13 coxed quad took a hard fought 4th place out of 8. In a very close and exciting race the HSOBC J13 double scull took an impressive silver medal with the two other Headington entries in this event finishing 3rd in the repechage and 3rd in the heat. Finally the octuple scull (the first time our J13s have raced this boat class) raced extremely well to take gold in the final, capping off a great regatta for the J13 squad.

Headington had two entries in the highly competitive J14 single scull event with Trudie racing well to win her heat and semi final before taking bronze in the final. Trudie also joined forces with Claudia in the J14 double scull in which they took an impressive gold medal. Headington had three entries in the coxed quadruple scull with one crew just missing out on the final but the other victorious, taking gold in the final. The J14 octuple scull also had a great regatta; ending the day with a gold medal for Headington.
