Wallingford Regatta 2017

Thursday, 4 May 2017 - 2:20pm

Wallingford Regatta is the first side by side racing of the season for Headington and a great chance for the girls to perform on the lake ahead of the National Schools Regatta at the end of the month.

Headington had over 40 athletes competing at Wallingford Regatta across a mixture of adult and junior events. Unfortunately the day was effected by severe winds which brought side by side racing to a close during the morning division. The rest of the event was run over a 1500m time trial.

While the side by side racing was still taking place the coxless quad of Liz, Rosie, Issy and Mattea raced well in very tough conditions to take victory in the Women’s Challenge 4x-, a great achievement in this event which is open to elite adult women. Earlier in the morning Lucy and Franny competed in the Women’s Challenge 2- and were narrowly beaten into 2nd place an adult duo from Thames RC. Mattea also had a great performance in her single scull taking 2nd place in the J18 category.

The afternoon division saw the senior girls take to the water in the eights with both the first and second eights racing in the elite Women’s Challenge 8+ category taking 3rd an 5th place respectively.

J15 and J16s

The J15 and J16 rowers were also in action at Wallingford Regatta, racing two eights in the morning division and small boats in the afternoon.

The two eights were racing in the J18 category and both crews raced well and fought hard to take an impressive 3rd and 5th place. The afternoon saw the J16 4x- of Kira, Grace, Charlotte and Leith place 2nd in their age category and the J16 4+ performed very well to take 5th in the J18 event.

There are currently no highlighted events. Our full calendar is here.
