Blenheim Junior Regatta 2019

Blenheim is an iconic location and permanent fixture on the regatta calendar with excellent racing on offer for our youngest rowers.

The weather on Saturday 8 June produced strong and gusty winds, and for safety reasons the Blenheim organisers made significant adjustments to the day’s race schedule. The Novice 1x and 2x events were cancelled, with only the four coxed quads allowed onto the lake: they would row in a time trial format instead of the usual 3 lane side by side racing.

The girls took the tricky conditions in their stride, and the WJ12 4x+ of Gabby, Evie, Paula, Nilly and coxed by Martha won a bronze medal, missing out on the silver by less than a second.

There was a large J13 entry into Blenheim Palace Regatta and despite the challenging conditions for the girls, there were a number of medals won.

The tier 1 and tier 2 J13 quads, tier 1 J13 double (Erin and Emilia) and tier 2 single (Louise) all won gold in their respective categories. There was a further silver medal in the tier 2 J13 quads who raced exceptionally well in coping with their steering failing just prior the start of the race. 3 bronze medals were also won in the tier 3 J13 double sculls (Zara and Pooja), tier 1 J13 singles (Mia) and tier 3 J13 singles (Alice).

Well done to all those who raced in what were very testing conditions.
