For Wallingford Regatta, the team originally planned to send out five eights (three senior and two j16 eights.) However, due to the illness spreading around school, only the second eight were able to compete while the other four crews focused on recovering well.
After a very successful rowing camp in France, the girls racing were eager to see if their hard work paid off. The second eight were racing in one of three heats for the j18 schools eights category. Out of eighteen crews entered, the fastest six qualified for the A final. The second eight were racing in Heat C against: Llandaff, Hinksey, Henley B, Kew House and Wallingford. After a slow start to the heat, the girls managed to pick it up through the last 1000m coming in a close 3rd place to Wallingford. With a difficult heat, the girls still managed to qualify for the A final with the 5th fastest time out of all the crews.
Approaching the final, the crew reflected on what could have been done to make it a better row and brought this to the race. The outcome was excellent and the second eight came in 4th place, after overtaking Wallingford and Marlow’s first eights. The squad were really chuffed with their performance and are excited to see how they can improve for the National Schools Regatta at the end of May!
