GB v France 2019

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

By: Trudie (Vice Captain)

The trials to compete for the GB team in the annual J16 match against France took place at Eton Dorney two weeks before the match. Three Headington crews raced the 1500m time trial: a double (Trudie and Claudia); a coxless quad (Anna, Issie, Eleanor, Katie); and coxed four (Maddie (cox), Phoebe, Ana, Alex, Evie).

The double won the time trial with a large lead over the following crews and so progressed to earn their GB vest. Both the coxless quad and coxed four came very close but missed out on a place in the team. The coxless quad came 2nd missing out by 0.4 seconds and lost the re-race against very tough opposition. The coxed four met a similar fate as they came 3rd in an event where the top two crew earned a place in the match.

Therefore the double was selected as the GB Junior Women’s J16 Double for the GB v France match in Nottingham.

Trudie and Claudia raced the match held at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham over a distance of 1500m and managed to close the season with a win in their category against a strong French crew. Their victory also contributed to the British team winning the overall match on points.
