5 rowers and a cox attended the trial.
The GB April Regatta was a key performance opportunity for the girls already involved in the GB trials process, serving as both a competitive event and a critical part of the selection process for final crew formations. Held in Nottingham over the weekend, our rowers put in an impressive showing across a series of 2km races. Nottingham thankfully had brought clear skies and low wind that day in order for some great side by side racing.
Five Headington rowers took part in racing, with pairs formed as follows:
Elayna (Bow) & Sophie (Stroke)
Lucy (Bow) & Selam (Stroke)
Ellie (Bow) & Charlotte (Stroke – from Henley Rowing Club)
Also, our cox Alice was there to help them throughout the day.
Time Trials
The regatta kicked off with time trials that determined placement in the semifinals. All three boats performed strongly, with all of them progressing to A/B semis—an excellent start to the day.
Semifinals
Elayna & Sophie’s Pair: Had a strong race, coming 2nd in their semifinal, which secured them a spot in the A Final.
Ellie & Charlotte’s Pair: In the same semi as Elayna’s, they came 3rd, but thanks to having the next fastest time across both semis, they also progressed to the A Final.
Lucy & Selam’s Pair: Competed in a separate A/B semifinal and finished 5th, placing them in the B Final.
A Final
Elayna & Sophie finished 3rd, demonstrating great form and composure under pressure.
Ellie & Charlotte were close behind, finishing 4th, capping off a tight and hard-fought race with just seconds between the first 4 crews.
With these pairs competing in the A final they automatically get an invitation to final crew formations which will decide their official GB crew.
B Final
Lucy & Selam delivered a solid performance, holding their own in a competitive race which will have helped shape their development going forward.
Overall Reflection
After a long day of intense competition, we’re proud to share that all our athletes have been invited to the final crew formation process, a testament to their skill, determination, and teamwork. This regatta was not only a chance to race, but to show selectors what our rowers are capable of.
A huge thank you to the coaches who supported the rowers and helped through the day. We wish all our athletes the best of luck in the rest of the GB trials process.
