Isis Sculls: Saturday 20th September 2025

Dear Parents and Athletes,


The Isis Sculls event organized by the City of Oxford Rowing Club will be held on the Isis stretch of the River Thames in Oxford this Saturday. Headington has registered crews for the J14 & J15 races in various boat categories. It is important to be aware that the races will occur throughout the day. Due to the close distance to Headington, school transportation will only be available for boarding girls. Details regarding timings and arrangements can be found in the transport section below. If your daughter is unable to attend the event then please inform the Head of Rowing via email at chermes@headingtonschool.com.


Before dropping off your daughter, make sure she has communicated with her coach about the time she needs to be at the venue for her race. The drop-off and/or pick-up point for rowers is at the City of Oxford Rowing Club (address provided below).

The Draw:


The draw and timetable can be found on the event website. The girl's crews will be confirmed early this week (if they have not been already).


If your daughter is down to race but is in fact now unavailable please let me know as soon as possible. Similarly if your daughter is injured or ill and unable to compete please let me know as soon as possible.


Headington have entered crews into two of the divisions of racing:


Division 2 (11:30am):

WJ15 4x+


Division 4 (2:30pm)

WJ15 1x

WJ15 2x

WJ14 4x+


Transport:


Due to the close proximity to the school, transport to this event is only available to boarders.


Boarders, please meet outside the school gym at 8:30am for a prompt departure.


Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping during the morning departures. The ROWERS MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE while waiting outside the boarding house.


When being collected by parents after racing; no girls may depart the event until the trailer has been fully loaded and/or they have been dismissed by their coach.

Please note that there are many girls racing and that it is their responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below.


08:30: Boarders meet outside school gym

08:35: Bus departs from Headington.


9:00: J15s meet at venue - begin rigging boats

11:30: Division 2 begins


12:30: J14s meet at venue

14:30: Division 4 begins


Boats will be derigged and loaded onto the trailer throughout the day as racing continues and they are no longer needed.


No girl may depart before their boat and blades have been fully loaded onto the trailer and/or they have been dismissed by their coaches.


We estimate the girls will be finished by 16:30.


Food and Drink


The girls will need:

- A Large reusable water bottle (1L) with electrolyte replacement fluid.

- Food - appropriate for race day, if you are not sure what to bring please have the girls ask their coaches

- A good breakfast before departing (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).

- A snack for after each set of races (if doing more than 1). If not sure what to bring; your daughter's coach can advise her.


Clothing


The girls will be required to race in a HSOBC lycra and a white t-shirt, in the event of wet or cold weather the girls may wear HSOBC leggings, long sleeves and splash jackets. If your daughter does not have HSOBC racing kit yet please contact the Head of Rowing (chermes@headingtonschool.com)


Please ensure your child has enough warm and dry clothes to change into if the weather decides to not be in our favour.


Spectating 


There is excellent viewing of the racing along the towpath between Donnington and Folly Bridge.
