Dear Parents and Athletes,
Peterborough Junior Championships is being held by Peterborough Rowing Club on the purpose built Rowing lake this Saturday. Headington have entered crews in J13, J14 & J15 events across a number of boat classes. Please note the racing is taking place throughout the day and school transport is available to all girls if needed (see transport section below for timings and information) or if you wish to drop your daughter off at the race venue please let the head of rowing know by email (chermes@headingtonschool.com) and please copy in Tom Symington, (tsymington@headingtonschool.com) so we know not to expect them on the bus.
If dropping your daughter off please ensure she has liaised with her coach regarding when she should arrive at the venue for her race. Rower drop off and/or pick up is at Peterborough Rowing Club (address below),

The Draw:
The draw and timetable can be found on the event website. The girl's crews will be confirmed early this week (if they have not been already).
If your daughter is down to race but is in fact now unavailable please let me know as soon as possible. Similarly if your daughter is injured or ill and unable to compete please let me know as soon as possible.
Transport:
There are a two departure times on Saturday morning
Group 1 - WJ15 1x, WJ14 4x+, WJ14 2x
Those racing in the WJ15 single sculls, WJ14 coxed quads, and WJ14 double events will depart from school at 6:00am
Please meet outside the school gym at 5:50 am for a prompt departure.
Group 2 - Those racing in all other events
Those racing in all other events will depart from school at 7:30am
Please meet outside the school gym at 7:20 am for a prompt departure.
Anyone not racing until the pm division may make their own way there if they wish to. Unfortunately we are unable to offer any more transport than that provided in the morning.
Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping during the morning departures. The ROWERS MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE while waiting outside the boarding house. Transport will be available back from Peterborough to school for all rowers who require it. If being collected by parents after racing; no girls may depart the event until the trailer has been fully loaded and/or they have been dismissed by their coach.

Please note that there are many girls racing and that it is their responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below.
05:50: WJ15 1x, WJ14 4x+, WJ14 2x (Group 1) meet outside school gym
06:00: Group 1 departs Headington
08:00: Group 1 arrives at Peterborough - begin rigging boats
07:20: Group 2 meet outside school gym
07:30 Group 2 departs from Headington.
09:30: Group 2 arrives at Peterborough - begin rigging boats
08:36: Racing begins (WJ15 1x)
17:38: Last possible J15 race (WJ15 4x+ A final)
18:34 Last possible J14 race (WJ14 8x+ A final)
18:26 Last possible J13 race (WJ13 1x A final)
Boats will be derigged and loaded onto the trailer throughout the day as racing continues and they are no longer needed.
No girl may depart before their boat and blades have been fully loaded onto the trailer and/or they have been dismissed by their coaches.
21:30: Approximate return time to Headington - the girls will be able to contact parents when we are departing Peterborough.
Food and Drink
The girls will need:
- A Large reusable water bottle (1L) with electrolyte replacement fluid.
- Food - appropriate for race day, if you are not sure what to bring please have the girls ask their coaches. This is a long day so a good packed lunch is needed, there are also some food stalls where the girls will be able to supplement their packed lunch.
- A good breakfast before departing (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).
- A snack for after each set of races (if doing more than 1). If not sure what to bring; your daughter's coach can advise her.
Clothing
The girls will be required to race in a HSOBC lycra and a white t-shirt, in the event of wet or cold weather the girls may wear HSOBC leggings, long sleeves and splash jackets.
Please ensure your child has enough warm and dry clothes to change into if the weather decides to not be in our favour.
Weather
Although the heat wave is forecast to be over by Saturday, it will still be very warm. The girls will be required to wear hats and suncream throughout the day. We will also be reminding the girls to drink plenty of water and stay out the sun where possible.
Spectating
There is excellent viewing of the racing along the lakeside. Food and drinks are available for purchase at Peterborough City Rowing Club on the lakeside.
