The Junior Sculling Head: Monday 20th March 2023

Dear Parents and Athletes,


The Junior Sculling Head is being run at Dorney Lake over 3600 meters. Headington have entered crews in both the J14 , J15, J16 and Senior age groups.


Please note that all girls should use school transport (see transport section below for timings and information) to get to the event but if you wish to drop your daughter off at the race venue please let me know by email so I know not to expect them on the bus.


If dropping your daughter off please ensure she has liaised with her coach regarding when she should arrive at the venue for her race.


Rower drop off and/or pick up is at Dorney Lake.

The Draw: The draw can be found on the event website.


All crews will race 3600 meters. This will be broken down into two 1800 meter time trial style racing.


The girl's crews will be confirmed at training early this week (if they have not been already).


If your daughter is told she is racing but is in fact now unavailable for any reason please let me know as soon as possible. Transport:


We will provide two timing slots for transport.


  • A minibus for SNRs and J16s will depart the school gym at 7:30am.Please meet outside the school gym at 7:20am.


  • SNRs and J16s will return to a normal school day.


  • A bus for J14 and J15 will depart school at 9:30am. Please meet outside the school gym at 9:20am.


  • Teachers will be informed on your daughters absence. The girls are expected to catch up on any work missed.



Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping during the morning departures. The ROWERS MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE while waiting outside the boarding house. Transport will be available back from Dorney to school for all rowers. If being collected by parents after racing; no girls may depart the event until the trailer has been fully loaded and/or they have been dismissed by their coach.

Please note that there are many girls racing and that it is their responsibility that they follow the coaches instructions and the timings below.


J16s and SNRS Info ONLY


07:20: J16 & SNRs Meet outside school gym 07:30: Minibus departs from Headington.


08:15: Bus arrives at venue - begin rigging boats


from 09:25 to 10:30: Time trials


11:30: Boats derigged and loaded onto the trailer


12:00: Return back to school


J14s and J15s Info ONLY


09:20: J14s and J15s Meet at the school gym


09:30: Depart school for Dorney Lake


10:30: Arrive and Rig Boats


11:00: J15s Warm up and Pre Race Chat


11:35: J15's approximate race start


13:30: J14's approximate race start


15:30: Approximate departure time from race venue - the girls will be able to contact parents when we are departing Dorney. 16:30: Approximate return time to Headington



No girl may depart before their boat and blades have been fully loaded onto the trailer and they have been dismissed by their coaches.


There will be NO training Monday evening at Godstow!

Kit and Food The girls will need:


- A Large water bottle (1L) with electrolyte replacement fluid.


- Food - appropriate for race day, if you are not sure what to bring please have the girls ask their coaches


- A good breakfast before departing (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).


- A snack for after each set of races (if doing more than 1). If not sure what to bring; your daughter's coach can advise her.


- Kit: The girls will be required to race in a HSOBC lycra and white t-shirt, in the event of wet or cold weather the girls may wear HSOBC leggings and splash jackets. If they do not have any HSOBC kit yet please let me know.


Spectating

Parking information for the day will be published on the event website and there will be a charge per car for parking at the event. The best viewing will be from the 250m of the course opposite the finish tower.


I would ask parents to please not enter the trailer park or approach the girls while they are at the trailer, rigging their boats and launching or landing for their races. The girls and coaches do not require any help with these activities.


Please may I also remind parents that only coaches are permitted to follow races. Policies and Documents

If there are any changes to the information provided above I will email them to parents with as much notice as possible.
