South of England Indoor Rowing Championships: Sunday 9th February 2020

Dear Parents and Athletes,


The South of England Indoor Rowing Championships (SEIRC) is an indoor rowing event run by Hinksey Sculling School at the White Horse leisure centre in Abingdon. Headington have entered girls into the J12, J13 and J14 individual and relay events.


Please note that all girls should use school transport to get to the event unless she has permission via email from the Head of Rowing to meet us at the event, if dropping your daughter off at the event please ensure that she is there no later than one hour prior to her race time.


The Draw:


The race schedule has been published on the event website.


The girls will be told their relay teams at training prior to the event taking place.


Please note that there will be no training on Sunday 9th February for those J14s who are not competing at SEIRC.


Transport:


The school transport will depart Headington at 8:20am at the latest. Please meet outside the school gym at 8:15am.


Please note that there are boarders and girls who may be sleeping at this time. The ROWERS MUST NOT MAKE ANY NOISE while waiting outside the boarding house.


Transport is available back from Abingdon however this will only leave after all HSOBC races are completed; parents are welcome to arrange transport back from the event for those rowers who finish racing early (there is school transport available to all boarders back to school).


Itinerary: SEIRC - 9th February 2020


08:15: Meet outside school gym


08:20: Bus departs from Headington.


08:45: Bus arrives at White Horse leisure centre


1 hour prior to scheduled race: meet meet with coach and start to prepare



If any rower is late for their scheduled race time they may not be allowed to race.


15:30: School transport departs White Horse leisure centre for Headington


16:00: Bus returns to Headington


Kit and Food

The girls will need:


- Water bottles (1L) with electrolyte replacement fluid.


- Clothing: Novices should wear their school PE shirt with shorts or leggings, J13 and J14s are to wear HSOBC kit. There will be some waiting before and after races so girls should also have some trackies and a sweater or jacket.


- A good breakfast before departing (eg: Porridge, toast and a banana).


- Make sure to have a meal for after each race, such as pasta and banana / fruit

The event is run by Hinksey Sculling School and is taking place at the White Horse leisure centre in Abingdon:

Parents are welcome to attend to view the racing and refreshments are available for purchase from the leisure centre amenities and there is parking available at the leisure centre.
