Following the success of the junior squad on Saturday, the seniors took to Eton Dorney in high spirits. During the morning the 1st and 2nd 8+s competed in the school girls 8s category, having a very successful first two races including a win from the 1st 8+ and a commendable 5th overall for the 2nd 8+, coming 1st in the 2nd Eights category.
The J15 8+ also raced in the morning - with great experience of side by side racing gained against very tough opponents - placing 7th, only just missing out of the final. Following on were our two J18 singles, one of which came a fantastic 6th place in the final, and another who decided to take a quick swim after a very strong start!
After a break over lunch time, where the squad enjoyed some r&r and revision, the afternoon races were soon underway. Racing was kicked off by the J16 8+, who in a thrilling race, came third by only 0.5 seconds. Following this, our two J18 doubles both qualified for the A final, and came 6th and 5th, again a strong performance against tough competitors.
Our J18 8+s (1st 8+ and 2nd 8+) raced again in the afternoon, this time in the challenge women's 8s category. This was an amazing opportunity for the girls to establish themselves against high performance clubs such as Leander, Thames and London, and the racing did not disappoint. The 2nd 8+ put up a great fight in their heat, coming 4th against some of the top women’s 8s at the moment.
The 1st 8+ had a good row in the heat, coming 3rd, putting them into A final, where they ended up coming 5th - a strong performance and the top junior crew in the category.
